Over the weekend, Halsey began trending on Twitter after the singer quietly updated their social media bio pronouns to "she/they." On Saturday (March 13), the pop star acknowledged fans support with a simple "thank you" and a heart emoji on their Instagram story.
Fans shared messages on Twitter, congratulating Halsey and hoping their move will help others feel more comfortable in their own skin.
"i hope halsey changing their pronouns gives others the confidence to express what also makes them feel comfortable. it’s okay to not fit into the categories society puts you in," one fan tweeted.
"halsey using she/they pronouns really warms my heart. people do not understand how easily u can make someone feel invalidated just with simple words. seeing a person i look up to a lot coming out with the same pronouns as same is very comforting tbh <3" wrote another.
Others used the opportunity to educate those who may be confused about how to properly use two pronouns.
"Reminder to everyone that you DONT just use one of them (i.e only using she/her) you use BOTH e.g. 'I love halsey, they inspire me and she means a lot to me,'" explained a follower.
Halsey has been vocal about their gender fluidity, and in an interview with The Advocate explained she's "always really identified with being an androgynous performer.”
"My gender identity has always been super, super fluid," she added.
The 26-year-old is expecting their first child with boyfriend Alev Aydin and has been giving fans baby bump updates (while clapping back at trolls) since first announcing her pregnancy in January.
