Ringo Starr was a part of Tim's Twitter Listening Party for last Friday's release of John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band: The Ultimate Collection, which Ringo actually played on.
Some of the tweets that Ringo posted on the occasion included:
- "It's so incredible, the emotion on this record, just mind blowing. The sparseness of the band, the force of John Lennon. That's why he's one of the greats. This record proves it more than most."
- "John was just incredibly great and I think the simplicity of what [bassist] Klaus [Voorman] and I played with him gave him a great opportunity to, for the first time, really use his voice and his emotion how he wanted."
- "I can't say enough about this record because there's no downside to it. I think it may have had something to do with the Primal Scream, because there's quite a bit of screaming on it. That was the emotional place I feel he was at, at that time."
- "On this record I was mainly a time-keeper. It’s very straight. It wasn’t difficult at all. Very few fills. There’s a few lifting the track occasionally, but my basic job on this record was just holding it down – wherever John wanted to take it."
- "The tone of the drums was the tone we'd been using with The Beatles, really. They were very tight. They were very dead. With the old tea towels on top of everything. I would've just got into playing with that sound over the last couple of years."
Yoko Ono and son Sean Lennon were also involved with Saturday’s listening party.
