Protecting The Palm Beaches - School District Police Chief Lawrence Leon

In the wake of the Parkland shooting, concern about the safety of our kids at school has been higher than ever.  Unlike Broward, the Palm Beach County School District has its own police force, and School Police Chief Lawrence Leon says his officers are prepared.

"We've been doing active shooter training since after Columbine where we have one officer on the campus who definitely goes and engages the individual.  It's bred into us.  We do probably over 160 hours of training every summer to encompass that."

But, Leon says with just over 150 officers and 187 schools, he needs to do some major hiring in order to have at least one officer on each campus.  Total cost for that would be as much as 10 million, including the additional staff needed.  As for allowing school staffers to carry guns...

"Let these individuals do what they're supposed to be doing on the campuses.  Let the law enforcement handle the situation.  We're trained and we know when we're in that situation with bringing a weapon onto the campus whereas you're exposing them as they bring another weapon onto the campus and then we have another situation that can occur that may not be really conducive to the learning environment."

Another concern Chief Leon has with allowing school staff members to carry guns onto campus...how do the cops know the good guy with the gun from the bad guy with the gun?
