An app that lets you use other people's pools is expanding to the Sacramento area, reports CBS13.
Swimply is an app that lets hosts rent their private pool by the hour. The app was founded by Asher Weinberger in 2018. However, the app really took off after the COVID-19 pandemic hit in early 2020.
Now that the app has expanded to Sacramento, residents are taking advantage of the easy way to make some extra cash.
"I don't need to use the pool 24 hours a day," Jennifer Huie, who has been using the app to host told CBS13. "It's extra money. A couple of days after they book it, I get a direct deposit. I don't even have to be here."
After customers pay, they receive a code that gives them access to the property.
Huie says people come as far as San Francisco to take a dip in her pool.
There are now around 100 hosts throughout the Sacramento area, according to CBS13. Rates range from as cheap as $15 an hour to over $100 depending on the amenities offered by the host.
The app has seen a 4,000% growth over the last year.
Swimply plans on expanding its platform to include other activities like basketball and tennis court rentals by the end of the year.
